What To Do With the Chiefs Backfield in Week 3

Heading into week 3 if you have a Chief running back you are probably tearing your hair out right now. With injuries to Damien Williams and LeSean McCoy a player that has been written off for dead in fantasy football for 2019, Darwin Thompson could be a really solid week 3 start.

Damien Williams is listed as out for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens and LeSean McCoy is listed as questionable with an ankle injury. Meaning, Darwin Thompson should get a lot of looks on Sunday.

Head coach Andy Reid wants this backfield to be more of a committee back instead of a single work horse and this works in favor of Thompson. Thompson so far in 2019 has rushed the ball 1 time and has 1 catch.

With McCoy as the 1 and Thompson as the 2 I think Thompson will get more work in the receiving game which will be critical in a game like this. With McCoy hobeled with the ankle injury I think he will be used in more short yardage and goal line work. Thompson’s touchdown upside declines but he should be at least 10 rushes and a few catches.

What does this mean for fantasy football? It means that in a standard 12 team 1 flex league you shouldn’t play McCoy, and you can flex Thompson. I think Thomson has the potentiality to take this job and run with it moving forward.
