Why Gardner Minshew is a Good Start in Week 5

Why Gardner Minshew is a Good Start in Week 5

Minshew Mania has swept the league by storm. Gardner Minshew has already been compared as the next Tom Brady. While that may be a stretch, there is a lot to like about the rookie with his improving numbers and win’s week by week. But with a 2-2 record and trailing in 3 of 4 games, there may be some reason to call this a “over reaction.” I’m here to tell you that there may be no reason to hop off the Minshew train just yet, at least this week.

Minshew has a completion percentage rate of 69.4% (69.420 if you haven’t seen the meme’s) with 84 competitions out of 121 throws. He has thrown for a total of 905 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 1 yard. His favorite target has been D.J. Chark while also making James O’Shaughnessy relevant. One thing that’s noticeable is that in a majority of the games that Minshew has played in he has always been trying to comeback but one (against the Titans). While his point’s still count during his comeback drive for Fantasy, there is some room for worry if he can stay constant, that is having constant numbers and having constant wins leading.

This week the Jaguars play the Panthers. The Panthers had a rough start under Cam Newton. Since Kyle Allen has came in he has played well. Allen didn’t do so hot last week, but every player is allowed one bad game. Going into this week, I expect a lot from the Panther’s offence against an average Jaguars defense. Jaylen Ramsey is having random “injuries” and “sicknesses” and expect the Panthers to take advantage of that.

On the other side of the ball, I also expect the same form the Jaguars offence as I do the Panthers offence. While the Panther’s defense is a surprising 4th overall, they had a close game last week against the Houston Texans. The Jaguars also had a close game against the Texans. If anything, this is one of the most even matchups this week. As week 5 approaches fatigue & injuries start to set in across the league, defenses can slip. The Panthers could easily take the lead, but Minshew also thrives under pressure and on comebacks. Because of this, this game could be a shootout. Minshew is a start in my books.
