Jets vs. Giants Sunday Preview

Jets vs. Giants Sunday Preview

Jets vs. Giants is always fun, right? This Sunday we have the quarter-annual Snoopy Bowl and this year’s installment has tons of interesting and fun matchups within the game to watch. There are also some fantasy implications to examine

The first matchup I want to dive a little deeper into is that of Sam Darnold and his failing protection vs. the revamped Giants defensive line and more specifically, their pass rush. A big theme that has emerged throughout this week for Big Blue has been that of injuries. Now thankfully this slue of injuries only directly affects the offense, but this will likely put more of a responsibility on the defense to get pressure and stops. However this shouldn’t really be a difficult task, seeing as the Jets offensive line unit has been at or below league in ESPN Next Gen Stats pass-block win rate metric. Building on that, most of Sam Darnold’s woes have come from the failings of the guys him front of him and he has made good throws in between the bad decisions. However, he is building bad habits and if Leonard Williams, Dexter Lawrence and Lorenzo Carter along with the rotational guys can use their speed to get him to entrench those bad habits, that’s a winning formula, especially if its gonna be stagnant on offense for the Giants.

Obviously, many fans have tracked the progress and small things with Giants quarterback Daniel Jones but an interesting story to see unfold will be which more of a focus for the Giants, the ground game or the pass game. Seeing as the Jets are 24th ranked in pass yards given up to their opponent (263.0) per game. Additionally, their run defense’s output is more stellar, ranking 6th by that same metric (89.2). Lastly, Jets cornerback Trumaine Johnson looks shaky on film so expect Daniel Jones to test him on the right side.

Now, let’s take a look at some fantasy football factors for Sunday’s game. If you are at the point in the season where you are looking for stream options, Darnold and Jones are both excellent options this week. In PPR formats Jamison Crowder should continue his hot streak, especially if he gets matchups against Deandre Baker on the outside beating him off slant routes or against Grant Haley in the slot.
