Gang Green Week 13 Preview: These are The Jets We Were PromisedTweet
A Recap of The Jets Raiders Game From this Past Weekend and a Preview of This Sundays Bengals Matchup
When Adam Gase spoke to the media this summer he said “We’re going to play meaningful games in November and December.” Not many people bought into it, myself included. But with just five more weeks left in the regular season, we are finally witnessing the New York Jets team this offseason had promised, and Adam Gase’ late July assertion might hold some weight, however little it might be. This past Sunday Sam Darnold and the Jets showed up and showed out, with Darnold posting his third consecutive game of 3+ TD’s leading his team to victory over the Oakland Raiders 34-3, and earn their third straight victory. (Their longest win streak in two years)
The offense was not the only bright spot in this victory, The Jets defense played lights out this past Sunday. Holding the explosive rookie Josh Jacobs to a shocking 10 carries for only 34 yards, who prior to this game has averaged a little under 93 yards a game. In addition to shutting down the raiders rushing attack, the passing game was equally ineffective. With Quarterback Derek Carr going 15/27 for 127 yards. Derek Carr was so ineffective that Coach Jon Gruden elected to pull Carr midway through the 3rd Quarter. Replacing him with Backup Mike Glennon. It’s safe to say the Jets utterly dominated the Raiders.
Jumping ahead to tomorrow. The Jets look to continue their winning ways as they travel to Cincinnati to take on the winless Bengals. Bengals head coach Zac Tyler pulled the plug on the yan Finley experiment, announcing on Monday that the Red Rifle himself, Andy Dalton, would return under center this weekend. But don’t expect that to right their struggles. The Bengals currently rank 31st in total Team DVOA. Meaning they are the 31st most efficient team in the league. This bodes well for the Jets as they look to improve to 5-7 on the year.
Some Fantasy must starts in this game come from the Jets side of the ball. Sam Darnold has been a really reliable option the past few weeks. ESPN had Darnold as the QB 7 in weeks 10 and 11, and the QB 3 in week 12. Going up against a defense that ranks in the bottom quarter of the league, barring an implosion its looking good for Sam to maintain his top 10 QB ranking this weekend.
The Jets Defense looks to be a waiver wire must add as well. Coming off a near shutout of the Oakland raiders, Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has brought the best out of this unit. Following a lot of rumors around the trade deadline safety Jamal Adams has played his three best games . Posting 17 tackles, 9 Qb hits, 2 forced fumbles and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Adams is just one piece of this puzzle though. ESPN has had the Jets as a top 10 fantasy defense the past 3 weeks and against the Bengals they look to be a must start as some head into fantasy playoffs.
