Chiefs vs Patriots: A Rematch That Could End Differently

Chiefs vs Patriots: A Rematch That Could End Differently

The Chiefs (8-4) travel to England this Sunday to take on the current number two seed Patriots (10-2) in an AFC showdown that the league has been looking forward to ever since the AFC Championship last season. Both teams come into this match-up with different outcomes from the previous week. The Chiefs won their second game in a row dominating the Raiders 40-9 while the Patriots come off a poor performance against the Texans losing 28-22.

Everyone remembers the last time these two teams clashed in Arrowhead Stadium in the AFC Championship game where the Patriots came away with the win in overtime 37-31. The Patriots would go on to win the Superbowl against the LA Rams.

These two teams have changed in some aspects though many things remain the same. The Chiefs still boast one of the best offenses in the game led by MVP Patrick Mahomes while the Patriots are still being led by the “seems to never age” Tom Brady. A change for this Chiefs team is having an improved secondary led by Tyrann Mathieu, Rookie Juan Thornhill and Charvarius Ward. These three have helped move the Chiefs pass defense from being one of the worst to being a respectable pass coverage unit. The Chiefs pass defense was a massive problem last year and reared its ugly head in the AFC Championship game when they could not get stops against this Tom Brady led squad.

The Patriots, on the other hand, have an offense that has been wildly disappointing all season. They just aren’t clicking like they have in the past. Fortunately for the Patriots, their defense has played some excellent football ranking in the top five in every category but recently have been getting beat down by better competition (Ravens, Texans).

When these two powerhouses in the AFC meet up on Sunday, it will be a must watch game with the Chiefs having something to prove and the Patriots needing a bounce back win. The Chiefs will look to get their offense rolling against this very talented defense of the Patriots, and hope that the Chiefs defense can keep up its rock solid play as of late. This win would come as a huge confidence boast to a Chiefs team looking like they are getting hot at the right time going into the playoffs. Tune into a highly anticipated match-up where the Chiefs look to make it three wins in a row.
