Chiefs Gearing Up For a Divisional Clash with the Broncos

Chiefs Gearing Up For a Divisional Clash with the Broncos

The Chiefs (9-4) will be taking on the Denver Broncos (5-8) in Kansas City on Sunday. Everyone remembers the last time these two teams took the field against each other in Denver under the Thursday night lights. The game when Chiefs fans had to hold their breath with the Patrick Mahomes leg injury and the game where the Chiefs defense decided to really play their game shutting the Broncos down and embarrassing them in front of their home crowd 30-6.

Much has changed after that game in Denver. The Chiefs have been much more consistent on the defensive side of the ball as a whole, helping them on their current three game winning streak and bailing out the offense when it struggles such as in the previous game against the Patriots. The Broncos, on the other hand, have been playing better as of late, possibly because they have a change at quarterback from Joe Flacco to Drew Lock.

Drew Lock, a rookie QB, was said to not be expected to play this season due to the General Manager of the Broncos, John Elway, saying that Joe Flacco is in his “prime.” Man, were they wrong about not playing Drew Lock up to this point as he has looked excellent for this Broncos team. He has helped them to a two game winning streak and dominated the Texans at Houston last week.

The Chiefs have already secured their spot in the playoffs and are strictly going for seeding now, hoping that they can move up to one of the top two seeds for home field advantage. The Broncos hopes for the playoffs are very small, below one percent. Regardless, the Broncos are going to come out and try to play spoilers and upset these Chiefs to hurt their chances of getting better seeding.

This coming Sunday is going to provide different challenges than the last time these two met up and it will be exciting to see if this defense continues to improve against a much improved Broncos offense. Also, the Chiefs offense is in need of finding more consistency and it will be a great test to see if they can get it together against a very good Broncos defense. It should be a great match-up and, of course, a much watch rivalry considering the history between these two franchises.
