When Coach Yoast from Remember The Titans said leave no doubt after inspiring the defense to play lights out for Coach Boone, that was one of my favorite moments from Remember the Titans. On December 22nd at Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles played host to the Dallas Cowboys with the season of the line and the words from Coach Yoast rang through the entire Eagles team. With the Linc as loud as the night the Eagles blew the doors off against the Vikings in the NFC Championship game, the Eagles played their most complete game of the season. The offense even with missing 5 starters and Zach Ertz playing with taped up ribs and still managed to conduct long drives, a rhythm passing attack and Miles Sanders run to ice the game in the 4th. The defense in which Jim Schwartz and the rest of the defensive’s staff job was on the line held the Cowboys offense to 9 points and didn’t allow a single touchdown. If it wasn’t for two badly missed Jake Elliot field goals, the Eagles would have won by double digits. The biggest takeaway from this game, was the leaders of this Eagles team needed to step up and lead by example in this game and all of them did. Let’s start with the defense.

Fletcher Cox sustained an injury only to come back and forced a momentum shifting turnover, Josh Sweat after a injury plagued rookie year, came along strong in the biggest game of his career. Once again Sidney Jones in limited snaps came in and provided the biggest play of the game. Jalen Mills was carted off the field and came back in the 4th quarter. Zeke Elliot was held to 13 carries for 47 yards, Amari Cooper who has feasted during these match-ups against the Eagles was held to 4 catches for 24 yards. A lot could go back to Dak Prescott flat out missing throws but the Eagles defense was strong from start to finish. The shut down Zeke and force Dak to throw 44 times on a bad shoulder according to reports. Malcolm Jenkins made big plays all game from the 3rd down pass deflection on Amari Cooper to recovering the Tony Pollard fumble. The defense was on display and shut down one of the leagues best offenses. They close the running gaps on 1st down to make Dak beat them in the air and once again the season on the line the Eagles style of bend but don’t break was on full display. From the leaders Cox and Jenkins to the young guys, Sweat and Maddox played a complete game which we haven’t seen since the Seattle game.

Carson Wentz has been under the microscope all season and his ability to be that franchise QB has been in question all season but after 3 straight wins with their season on the line the detractors are losing ground by the week. Wentz went 31-40 for over 300 yards and a TD pass and was in rhythm all game. He’s fully developed chemistry with Greg Ward Jr., Dallas Goedert who had the best game of his career and even JJ Arecega-Whiteside at this point of the season. Miles Sanders came up big once again with racking up over 150 all purpose yards, a rushing TD and a 38 yard run to ice the game shades of Brian Westbrook. However the biggest takeaway in this game was even with the injury to Lane Johnson the offensive line play was remarkable. They ran for a combined 100 yards and got downfield to open lanes for the screen game. The offense is clicking now even at half strength and that’s what you want to see going into the last game of the season which is now a play in game for the Eagles. With no Howard, Alshon, Jackson, Agholor or Johnson, the Eagles have made due and did just enough to save their season again.

For the 3rd year in a row, the Eagles are faced with serious injuries all across the board and for the 2nd year in the row the Eagles were against the wall with a 6-7 record. A team that had no business being still in the playoff hunt is knocking on the door to win the division that should have been wrapped up by Dallas weeks ago. Doug Pederson can be summed up as this and I love this qoute that a good friend told me this; he’s either a genius or very vanilla with his play calling. Even though Doug has his flaws like every coach him and company has finally leaned on a more younger and hungry crew to save their season and it has paid off. They pro Carson Wentz the locker room and what I mean is that everyone playing now in the locker room is all in and doing everything and a little more to rally behind their QB. The Nick Foles talk should be dead. The Frank Reich talk should be dead as well. The Eagles got it right staying by the side of their #2 overall pick. They control their own destiny next week against the Giants and if they win they’ll be playing playoff football. Records won’t matter anymore its about who is hot at the right time and right now Wentz is on a roll similar to his 2017 season and you back that with a team whether its Seattle, San Fran, Green Bay or Minnesota having to come to Philly knowing they will be loud with this being their only playoff game here, the Eagles are playing with House money. It’s their job now to finish the fight and leave no doubt.
