Week 17 Start/SitTweet
The final week of the NFL regular season is upon us. Heading into the final games there are still a ton of teams playing to make the playoffs or to get a higher seed. Luckily this means that most teams won’t have the luxury of sitting their starters this week. There should still be some very good games this week, and along with that some good performances.
Alvin Kamara – NO-RB:
The Saints looked like they wanted to get Kamara involved in the offense this week in Tennessee. He had been struggling to produce the big games that he was drafted for. The Saints looked like they were trying to feed Kamara the ball after he showed a couple of bursts in the running game. He found the endzone twice and had over 100 total yards. This was the type of play that the Saints need from one of their stars heading into the playoffs. I expect that the Saints will try and feed Kamara again this week against a bad Panthers team.
David Montgomery- CHI – RB:
The Bears have not had the year they were hoping for and have struggled on both sides of the ball. Montgomery looks like he could be an asset for this team in the future. Montgomery has not found the endzone since week 9 and has not reached 100 yards on the ground since Week 8. Even with the passing game for the Bears being much improved the last few weeks it has not appeared to help Montgomery find more space. Facing the Vikings this week on the road I expect that Montgomery is going to have another game where he struggles to find any room and is not an effective fantasy option.
Jarvis Landry- CLE- WR:
The Browns have struggled to find their groove this year and have not lived up to the expectations from the beginning of the year. Landry has consistently been one of the best options in the passing game this year. With OBJ battling an injury this year, Landry has stepped into the lead role and has had some consistent performances. This week facing the worst team in the NFL I expect that the Browns are going to try and close the season out on a high note. I think that Landry is going to be a key piece in their success this week, and it very well could end up being a blowout. Look for Landry to capitalize on the matchup in the last game of the season and go out on a high note.
Larry Fitzgerald- ARI- WR:
Fitzgerald has had a resurgence in the back half of the season. He has shown that he can still play at an elite level in the last few games. Heading into this weekend’s game against the Rams both teams will be out to end the season on a high note before heading into the offseason. Murray injured his hamstring in the Cardinals game this last weekend so I would be surprised if he plays this week. Without the dynamic QB, I don’t think that the Cardinals offense is going to be as productive. The Rams also have a very good secondary so I think finding room in the passing game is going to be a struggle for Fitzgerald. I would look at other options this week.
RG III- BAL -QB:
With the Ravens locking up the 1 seed in the AFC over the weekend the Ravens will be sitting some of their starters to get some well-earned rest. RG III will get the start at QB for the Ravens this week against the Steelers. I think that he will fit well into the offense and that he could be a big surprise this week. Although the Steelers have had a very good defense down the stretch I think the Ravens scheme and game plan will still give them the advantage with their high profile players out. RG III could be a big surprise if you need a QB this week.
Dak Prescott- DAL- QB:
The Cowboys had the season and playoff hopes in front of them last week when they headed to play the Eagles. The Cowboys did not show up to play against the Eagles and now they will have to play very well this week and get some help to make the postseason. There have been a lot of questions about the players on the field during last week’s game and why some of the best players were left on the bench when they needed a play. Dak did not look like himself against the Eagles, and I think that his shoulder injury is affecting him more than the original reports showed. Although the Cowboys will be facing the Redskins this week, I would try to avoid starting Dak if possible. His throws were off against the Eagles and he looked like he was having a hard time controlling the ball and against a division opponent that has been playing better the last few weeks he would be hard to trust.
Kaden Smith- NYG- TE:
Since Engram has missed a lot of time Smith has been taking over at the TE position for the Giants. Last week he was able to find the endzone twice and has looked good for the Giants. Heading into the last game I think the Giants are going to come out and give the Eagles a fight this week. With the Eagles defense struggling to defend the pass I think that this could be another big game for Smith. With the Giants having almost all of their weapons back on offense and Jones at QB they have a good chance to make this game competitive. If you have a need at TE this would be one of the top pickups for me.
Jonnu Smith- TEN- TE:
Smith has put together a couple of good games in the last few weeks. The Titans will be fighting to make the playoffs this weekend against the Texans. Both teams have something to play for this weekend and I think this is going to be a good division battle. These teams played each other just two weeks ago when Smith had a 60-yard rushing attempt that surprised the Texans defense. The Texans defense has looked strong of late. I think the Texans will be ready to play this weekend and the Titans could have a hard time finding their playmakers. Jonnu could be a bust this week so I would look at a better option if I have one available.
IND Colts D/ST:
The Colts defense has had a decent year and has played pretty well trying to keep their team in games and the playoff hunt. This week they will get to play a Jags team that has not been playing very well this year. I think the Jags could get down early in this game and will have to play from behind putting them in obvious passing situations. I think the Colts are going to be able to take advantage of this and keep the Jags in check. If I needed a D/ST this week I would look at playing the Colts.
TB Bucs D/ST:
The Bucs have had a good run defense for most of the season. Some of that is due to the fact they have struggled to defend the pass and they have some good run stoppers in their front seven. In the last few weeks, the Bucs still gave up some points but have also been able to turn the ball over and even scored a defensive touchdown. This week they will be facing the Falcons in the last game of the season. The Falcons have been playing a lot better the second half of the season and I expect that will continue this week. I think that this game could be very high scoring and the Bucs could give up a lot of yards to the Falcons high-efficiency offense. I would look to stream another D/ST this week and get away from the Bucs.
