Minshew Gets Help as Jags Draft Laviska Shenault Jr.

Another pick I mentioned in my preview column is heading to Duval, the Jaguars draft WR Laviska Shenault Jr. out of Colorado with the 42nd overall pick.

He is a versatile receiver who can line up all across the formation and create plays for this offense. Not only will Minshew be exited about his arrival, so will Offensive Coordinator Jay Gruden.

Player Profile

Measuring at 6’1 and 227 pounds, Shenault is the perfect complement to DJ Chark. He ran a 4.58 40 yard dash at the combine, but dealt with a core injury at the combine and says his true time is in the 4.3 range. He lined up all across the formation at Colorado and Gruden has to be foaming at the mouth thinking of ways to use him.

Jaguars draft pick Laviska Shenault Jr. has measurables scouts crave, he creates yards after contact, and he is extremely physical. The post he wrote for The Players Tribune explains who he is as a player and person.

Offensive Coordinator Jay Gruden utilizes a west coast offense and will love Laviska Shenault’s versatility. He lined up everywhere on the offense at Colorado except tight end and offensive line. Shenault had 191 touches in college, and 101 went for either a first down or a touchdown. He also showed a willingness to run block, which no coach will turn down. The sky is the limit for him, and Gruden should give him every chance to succeed opposite DJ Chark.

Fantasy Impact

Because of the nature of the offense, I don’t see Shenault having an impact right away, but he is definitely worth a stash in dynasty leagues. He is a big play receiver who may be usable in the right spots but is not worth anything but a late round pick in redraft leagues.

Expect Leonard Fournette (or whoever ends up at running back) and Chark to be the main pieces to target in redraft.
