Yetur Gross-Matos Added To Building Defensive Line.
In the early second round of the NFL Draft, the Panthers went with the versatile defensive lineman out of Penn State University, Yetur Gross-Matos. There was several needs that were more important for the Panthers in the second round. With bigger holes on the defensive side of the ball, the most solidified piece off the defense was sort of a shocker. There was plenty of players of more value for the Panthers still available at 38, but this pick is a very nice value. Gross-Matos can play just about anywhere on the defensive line to help with the Panthers in any defensive package they put out onto the field.

With the 64th overall pick the Panthers selected Jeremy Chinn. Many believe Chinn will be the steal of the draft, comparing him to the number 8 pick in the first round Isaiah Simmons. The versatility, athleticism, the size. Chinn is already being talked about as the steal of the draft. The Panthers have already came out and said they believed Chinn was a first round talent. A Cornerback Is Selected.
With the Panthers 4th round pick in the NFL Draft, they selected Troy Pride Jr from Notre Dame University. Cornerback is a big hole that the Panthers had from the end of free agency. James Bradberry is now on the New York Giants, Ross Cockrell is still a free agent. There was nobody on the roster who could play opposite of Donte Jackson on defense. Pride in the 4th round is a similar player to Donte Jackson in play type. They are both fast and do not lack confidence no matter what happens to them on the play. Pride is no slated to be starting opposite of Jackson in the secondary for the Panthers. That is another starter this season drafted by the Panthers this year.

Second Safety Taken In The Draft By The Panthers.
Former Safety for West Virginia University and St. Louis Battlehawks, Kenny Robinson was the selection for the Panthers. Robinson is a taller more physical defensive back than Troy Pride Jr and Donte Jackson. There is the possibility of challenging Juston Burris for the starting position at Safety next to Tre Boston, or play as a cornerback against the bigger wide receivers of the NFC South and around the league. It is going to be intriguing to see what role Robinson ends up in for the Panthers defense.

Overall Draft Grade.
In conclusion, the Panthers drafted every position needed aside from linebacker. With there still being time before the start of the season, the Panthers have plenty of time to fulfill that position. The secondary and the defensive line was the main focus, adding both starters, along with depth for the team. Overall, the draft was a success.
